Extant Garments

This page is devoted to the extant garments that I have had the chance to study and document with a focus on the mid-19th century.

Point Park Collection

Having expressed great interest in historical clothing during my semester at Point Park University, I was given permission and the blessing of all three costume shop professors and professionals to study and photograph some of the extant garments in the university's collection.  The opportunity was beyond words!

1860s Sheer Dress - this entry offers an additional introduction to the Point Park University collection and extant garment project.

1860s Green Plaid Dress - if there is anything to be said of Civil War fashions, they sure loved their plaids!

  1. I just found this extant dress list. Was hoping to find more entries. The green plaid dress is a great rabbit trail for me to follow…I have a bunch of tartan plaid cotton fabric I bought to make Highlander dresses, but may use some for a civil war dress too! Thank you. I hope you are able to facilitate the curation of the collection at some time.
