Here's to a Happy 6th Blogiversary!
Blog-iversary (noun) - the anniversary of one's first blog post
Once again, it's July 27th, which for me, marks the beginnings of a blogging journey that has become and continues to be a significant part of my learning and life. SIX whole years ago, I wrote my first blog post, introducing myself as the "young sewphisticate," a maker who loves history and its clothing. With a little experience and a lot of experimenting - six years of working at a living history museum and three college experiences later - I'm still here, creating and sharing content with an amazing audience whose outpouring of encouragement and support keeps me blogging. Thank you!
And now, a few, exciting announcements:
Long-time followers may have noticed some recent updates to the look around the blog...after six years, I thought it was time for a makeover, and I hope you like the new look. An "About Me" page seemed overdue; as is a new mission statement to better reflect my purpose in recreating historical clothing and textiles, as well as intentions for education and outreach:
My mission is to provide an accurate, informative, diverse, and inclusive interpretation and representation of history and material culture.
I'm in the process of transitioning from full-time student to professional; and while the road ahead may seem daunting, I am very eager to apply all that I've studied and practiced during art school to the museum field. That said, it's time to drop the "young" - like the caterpillar's metamorphosis into a butterfly, I'm ready to spread my wings and fly into the future as just "the sewphisticate." This name change seems more sophisticated, if you will, and hopefully reflects my growth as not only a seamstress, but as a textile artist, educator and living historian.
So, here's goodbye to six years as "the young sewphisticate" and the old banner:
And welcome to the next six years and more, here at:
(3) Join us for a Meet & Greet!
That's right - you're invited to a virtual hangout with Kristen of the Victorian Needle and me - August 4th at 7pm EST! We'll be discussing our current work, and I'll be announcing something super special...an exciting endeavor (started thanks to Kristen's continued encouragement and belief in me) that you'll just have to tune in to find out about. We're keeping it casual, so please, pull up a chair, maybe a drink, and ask us all of your questions!
All that's left to say is: Thank you!
It's been an incredible six years on the blog and social media! While the journey is not without its ups and downs, construction challenges and technical triumphs, and all the changes, both good and bad, that six years bring - I wouldn't trade it for anything. Your constant and continued encouragement of my sewing, weaving, and living history adventures - every like, comment, follow, and share - has been greatly appreciated and keeps me creating!
I am so looking forward to all that's to come in the next year of blogging and beyond
- as always, thank you for reading! ❤
